In 2005 the INTERNATIONAL DAY OF
PEACE will be observed on Wednesday, September 21st. Find out how you can take part in a global vigil of
meditation and prayer in support of the Day.
UN Days Meditation Outline is below
-
Every year the United
Nations calls upon individual people of goodwill and organisations to observe this International Day with
activities dedicated to the creation of a culture of peace, and to a day of global cease-fire and
non-violence.
-
To support this special
Day on a spiritual level, a group of organisations representing a wide variety of religious and spiritual
traditions has, since 2002, co-ordinated an International Day of Peace
Vigil, encouraging local groups and individuals to hold a 24 hour Vigil in houses of worship and places
of spiritual practice.
-
As a contribution to
this global focus the United Nations Days & Years Meditation Initiative and Intuition in Service have,
since 2002, co-ordinated an international Vigil of meditation and prayer for the 24 hours of September 21st
from midnight to midnight GMT.
The 24 hours are divided into
15 minute periods. The aim is to have individuals or groups commit themselves to spend specific 15 minute
periods in prayer or meditation for world peace. You can choose the 15-minute time slots you will
participate, and see the list of all participants, in your own time zone. Select your country and time
zone and then register your times in your time zone.
How to
participate:
1. Register the
times you wil participate (see below);
2.
Begin precisely on the quarter hour by using the Great Invocation, or the world prayer 'May Peace
Prevail on Earth', or an invocation or prayer of your choice oriented towards world peace.
3. Link in
thought with the others who are linking at the same precise time as you and then with everyone in the
world who is participating in the International Day of Peace Vigil (remember there will be countless people in
churches, mosques, temples and sacred sites taking part in the Vigil);
4.
Reflect on the meaning of a Culture of Peace;
5.
Visualise the lighted, loving energies that can create the mental and emotional understanding and
atmosphere within which peace can flourish in ourselves, our communities, our nations, and our world;
6. Use
the Great Invocation, or the world prayer 'May Peace Prevail on Earth', or any invocation or prayer that is
oriented towards world peace, precisely on the quarter hour.

-
To register enter your name and

a minimum of fifteen minutes. You may like to take on a number of different periods (for example: 9am to 10am
(9.00 - 10.00); 12 noon - 1.00pm (12.00 - 13.00); 5.00pm - 6.30pm (17.00 - 18.30) Remember, the aim is to use
your prayer on the quarter hour, so, for example, if you wish to take part in the Vigil from 9am to 10am (9.00
- 10.00), you should use the prayer five times: 9.00; 9.15; 9.30; 9.45; 10.00.

UN Days Meditation Outline
Individuals and groups can help to make UN
Days more effective through meditation and prayer. Click here for information on the UN Days in the current month and
suggestions on how to participate in this
Initiative.
Sit comfortably, alert and with the spine erect. Breathe quietly and regularly.
Raise your consciousness to the centre between the eyebrows and without strain hold this
focus.
Stage one
Say aloud:
May the Power of the one Life pour through the group of all true
servers
May the Love of the one Soul characterise the lives of all who seek to aid the Great Ones
May I/we fulfil my/our part in the one Work through self-forgetfulness, harmlessness, and right
speech.
Using creative imagination, link in thought with those throughout the world
who are working with this UN Days meditation.
Stage two
Let the circle of your thoughts expand to include all people of goodwill who
serve with wisdom and compassion. Imagine this worldwide group as a network of light and love enveloping the earth -
you might like to vision the UN as amongst its brightest lights. In your mind's eye see spiritual energies pouring
into this global group of servers, aiding them in their work.
Stage three
Meditate on the topic/issue of the UN Day or Week you have
chosen.
Reflect on its meaning and significance, on the principles and qualities it
highlights. Why is the Day or Week needed? Sense or identify with the values that inspire right action in this area
of concern.
Stage four
Visualise the flow of the will-to-good (essential love) throughout the
planet.
Say aloud or silently:
Let vision come and insight.
Let the future stand revealed.
Let inner union demonstrate and outer cleavages be gone.
Let love prevail.
Stage five
Reflect on programmes and activities in the world that are making a positive
and enlightened contribution in this area of service. Think of practical ways in which local groups and individuals
can help.
Realise that you are making a contribution to the global focus on this UN Day
or Week.
Stage six
Link in thought with people of goodwill all over the world, and visualise
spiritual energies of light, love and goodwill pouring through this worldwide network of servers into human
consciousness.
Close by using the Great Invocation or an affirmation of your
choice.
From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into human minds.
Let Light descend on Earth.
From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into human hearts.
May the Coming One return to Earth.
From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide all little human wills
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.
From the centre which we call the human race
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out.
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.
Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on
Earth
