The Purpose and Power of Mantrams
A Mantram is a combination of sounds, of words and of phrases which, because of
certain rhythmic effects, achieve results that would not be possible otherwise. The words or syllables are
rhythmically arranged so that when they are sounded, certain vibrations are generated.
The potency of a mantra (or mantram) depends upon the point in evolution of
the one who uses it. Uttered by an ordinary person it serves to stimulate the good within and to protect. It
will also prove of beneficent influence upon your environment. Uttered by an adept or initiate its
possibilities for good are infinite and far-reaching. Adapted from A Treatise

A mantra, when sounded correctly, creates a vacuum in matter resembling a
funnel. This funnel is formed between the one who sounds it and the one who is reached by the sound. A direct
channel of communication is formed.

"There are mantrams for use in healing, mantrams of protection, mantrams of
discipleship, mantrams that put one in touch with the Will or with the Love aspect, or with Light; mantrams
that invoke the God within, that work with the matter of the mental plane, abstract or concrete. There are
mantrams that can only be entrusted to initiates and the Masters which deal with relationships beyond our
comprehension.
It is very helpful to memorize the mantrams and use them throughout the day to
hold one's identity as the soul instead of slipping back into the old habits of the personality mind and
emotions. Once LaUna was lost while back country skiing
on Mt. Shasta with a friend. She had just memorized the Gayatri and began to
say it aloud over and over as she searched for some trace of a way down among the great trees. As each hour
passed it appeared more and more likely that they would have to spend the night high on this mountain without
any supplies. The snow was fresh and quite deep. She keep focusing on the Gayatri and
discovered
that instead of feeling the fear that would be normal, she felt confident that
it was only a matter of time and effort. The two friends did discover a fresh trail made by skiers and made
their way to safety just as dusk turned to darkness. Safe at last she realized how helpful it was to
concentrate on the wisdom of the Gayatri and preserve all of her energy --- while connecting with even
greater forces of light and energy.
